Paint suggestions for master bath with durango travertine?

I am in search of a good paint color for my master bath - we have Durango Travertine countertops, cherry cabinets, and BM White Dove trim. I've already tried one BM paint color in the beige/tan family, but it made my countertops look really gold/yellow. Any suggestions?

Beige and Tan will be far too 'pink' for the Travertine; that's why it looked so yellow compared to it. The problem is that your Cherry cabinets are in the 'red' family, and the Travertine is in the 'yellow' family.

I would go with a 'cream' colour. You may have to 'custom' mix it yourself (with the paint store's help, of course), as you may find that a basic 'cream' colour is too white or too gray or too whatever.

What you'll want to do is take a piece of your Travertine to the paint store and match up the palest colour of paint to the stone and paint your walls with that. Even tho the cream colour will be very pale, it will still show in stark contrast to your White Dove trim.

Or, you can go the other way, and paint your walls the darkest colour in your Travertine. It all depends on what kind of 'look' you're going for.

If you go for the darker colour, and a sample on your wall is in on the right path, but just too bright, or 'cartoony' looking, you can have the paint store add black to it. I know it sounds crazy, but the only thing the small amount of black they'll add will do is 'tone down' the brightness of the colour. It won't turn it gray or anything, *lol*.

I've had the paint store add a lot of black, to the point where they're looking at me like I'm nuts, *lol*. I did this with a Navy colour once. It was the darkest Navy Blue they had available, and still, on my walls, it was Bugs Bunny-world, *lol*. So I had them add a LOT of black and, finally, got what I wanted... which was a rich, deep 'Indigo' colour.

Do all your custom mixing with quarts of paint. Once you find the right colour, then go with your gallon purchase.

Whatever you do, stay away from colours in the 'red' family.
